Building Energy Reporting Disclosure Ordinance

In October 2021, the City of Boston announced updated emissions standards for all buildings 20,000 ft2 and larger as part of BERDO. The standards, which begin in 2025, are increasingly more aggressive every 5 years until 2050, when all buildings will be required to be net zero energy.

Buildings that are above the standard will be required to pay a fine.

The emissions standard and any fine will be administered annually and the emissions targets differ depending on buildings type.

How we help our clients meet berdo requirements

Verify & submit data

Starting in 2022, BERDO requires third-party data verification every 5 years. Our team can review, verify, and submit all necessary data for you to meet BERDO compliance. As part of our service, we compile and review your whole building data, as well as enter it into Portfolio Manager and submit it to the City of Boston. We can also help identify incentive programs and efficiency opportunities to meet emissions targets set forth by BERDO.

“Reported data must be verified by a third party beginning in 2022. The below schedule outlines when data needs to be verified and the time period(s) covered by each verification. Please note: The first year of verification only requires 2021 calendar data to be verified.”
